Wilderness hike is the sweetest and enjoyable, and while going, you should be doing proper preparation on things that you are going to use to help you enjoy more and protect you from danger during hiking. There are some few things that when you are going for a hike in the wilderness, you should carry along and below are just some of the items that can save you overcome some tricky situation.
Walking stick is very important when it comes to traversing of the land and also finding a better balance, and it is used not only for navigations only so you should consider carrying when you are off to wilderness hiking. The wilderness can sometimes be filled with negative things that may threaten your life, and they can be both men and beasts so these walking sticks are very strong to help you even during self-defense and when choosing your walking stick, your height will determine which one to go for.
Basic first aid kit containing some tools that can help you in treating injuries or prevent infections or stop bleeding in the cut areas that might affect you during the hike is essential to carry. There are so many first aid kits available for you, but you are only encouraged to go for one that will contain all the required tools needed for the hike.
The next one that you should carry is a daypack containing your cell phone because you can need a reception if you don’t find one in the wilderness, a canteen of water, a fire source and also pack enough food to last you for at least three days and at this point you should not consider whether you are going to take long or short time at the wilderness. A GPS unit is a tool that can be used in tracing your way in case you get lost in the wilderness, and there are other tools that can be used in case it fail to function like traditional compass and also the map of the area that should be packed in a backpack when you are going from the hike.
The last thing to carry is a signaling device which includes whistle, a mirror and an air horn which can help in drawing attention to yourself or call for help even from a far distance, for example, looking at the mirror, you can easily give signals to the planes in the sky or other people that are present around you but during sunset, whistle and an air horn will help a lot. For safety, take multiple signaling devices that will grant many chances of rescue in the wilderness.
